in 1999, 'STERLING SQUARE' by the Prestige Group is now the corporate
office of 'Phillips India Ltd' in Bangalore. The building is a cocoon
of glass which reflects the site's largest resident, a massive rain tree,
that almost seems to revel in appreciating its own reflection.
The 2 acre site however screamed for an identity that would attract attention.
Our response was to design and create beautiful stainless steel columns
with stone caps leading right upto the entrance of the building set in
a patterned cobble stone walkway. The columns are capped with a large
metal pergola that captures the solidity of the building while still imparting
a sense of lightness. The pergola is fronted by a cascade that disappears
into a stream of pebbles below.
The impact of the columns is felt through its reflections on either side
of the glass facade. This impact is further heightened at night when the
columns are washed ablaze with focus lights. Who says landscapes only
mean plants?!?! |
